Event posting guidelines

First of all, thanks for thinking of Shanghai Networking News when adding your event. We're always happy to list new and interesting events where you can network around Shanghai.

The aim of Shanghai Networking News is to make it easier to network in Shanghai. With that in mind, we try to list as many business/social networking events as possible. We try to limit our listings to ONLY events where it is possible to do effective networking, generally with members of Shanghai's business community.

Some events are more "networky" than others, and so we're more willing to list those, especially mixers and business gatherings.

Other events are more limited to certain niches. If such a niche or event makes networking easy and worthwhile, we'll probably list it.

We try to avoid listing events like speed dating, non-business classes, rave parties, etc. Our audience is mostly businesspeople, and they already check other sites like City Weekend or SmartShanghai if they're interested in those.

We know it's difficult to draw a line as to whether an event is "networky" or not, and we appreciate any ideas from our audience to finetune our selection process. At present it sometimes, quite honestly, comes down to a gut decision on our part.

Events we are unlikely to list:

  • Language classes
  • Dance parties
  • Dating events
  • Paid membership events

If you're unsure whether your event is "networky" enough for us to list, just add it anyway and email us. If it's fine, we'll leave it there. If not, we'll try to get back to you to let you know why it's not "networky" enough.
